Built in Englewood. Building for the 17th ward

Theo believes strong communities are built block by block. His focus is on safer neighborhoods, stronger families, thriving small businesses, opportunities for our youth and seniors, and real investment in the 17th Ward.
Community first. Common sense. Real results.

MEET THEODORE THOMPSON
Theodore Thompson is a longtime South Side resident, homeowner, businessman, construction professional and community advocate who is running for Alderman of Chicago’s 17th Ward.
Theo’s roots in the community run deep. He graduated from Clara Barton Elementary School in Auburn Gresham and Calumet High School, where his talent in track and field earned him an athletic scholarship. He attended Grambling State University and later continued his education at South Suburban College, focusing his studies on home remodeling and new construction.
At just 25 years old, Theo became a first-time homeowner in Englewood. His background in construction and housing eventually led him to work with ShoreBank on efforts involving the purchase and rehabilitation of distressed single-family homes in Auburn Gresham, Englewood and Chicago Lawn, helping create housing opportunities for low-income families.
Theo’s entrepreneurial experience also extended beyond Chicago. In 2008, he designed and developed a tourism business in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. He later returned to school to study national and international law.

Today, Theo brings approximately 30 years of experience in home improvement, construction and project management, including working directly with homeowners and overseeing projects from design through completion.
He is also a father who raised his daughter as a single parent—an experience that helped shape his understanding of the responsibilities and challenges facing working families.
SPEAKING UP BEFORE RUNNING FOR OFFICE
Theo’s involvement in the 17th Ward did not begin with his campaign for alderman.
On June 22, 2017, Theo went to Chicago City Hall during a City Council zoning committee meeting and spoke out over issues affecting the community and the direction of leadership in the 17th Ward.
He was willing to challenge decisions connected to the ward under Alderman David Moore years before Theo ever became a candidate for his seat.
That history is important.
Theo isn’t asking residents to believe that he suddenly became concerned about the 17th Ward because an election is approaching. His connection to these neighborhoods includes living here, owning a home here, working here, investing in housing here and showing up at City Hall when he believed residents needed a voice.
Now, Theodore Fulton Thompson is taking the next step.
Through Theo for Change, he is running for 17th Ward Alderman with a focus on stronger neighborhoods, public safety, responsible development, homeownership, thriving local businesses, government accountability and making sure residents have a real voice in decisions affecting their communities.
He was speaking up before he was running.
Now he’s running to bring change to the 17th Ward.
